Recording, Shows, Oh My!

Now that we’ve got Shane trained in, backup vocals added, and a few new covers learned, we’re booking shows like crazy. Our September filled up pretty fast and we’re now looking to book through the end of the year. It’s so great to be playing again!
We’re also really hard at work on our album. Vocals. Are. DONE. There are a few very, very minor guitar re-recordings to do, but otherwise guitar, bass, and FX are all done and mixed. All that’s left is the drums!

Official Photos, New Shows

Check out our Photos page for our very first batch of official photos taken by Ellie Jerow. We finally gathered the crew on a rare day free from practice and toured the industrial areas of Milwaukee for some great shots. We selected 5 of the best group shots, touched them up a bit, and are now going to use those for all official branding!
We’re also starting to book shows left and right. Since our last update we’ve now added a Sept 12th show at Papa’s Social Club with The Mood Manual from Madison, and we are going to open up for a touring act at the Y-Not III on Sept 17th.

New Singer, New Tunes, New Takes on Old Tunes

Well, we should have officially announced this a while ago, but welcome Shane Mattox to the {else} crew! He responded to our call of auditions, impressed us with some of his original music, though in a very different genre, and did well with auditions. Since finding and integrating him into the band in February, we’ve gone over all of our previous originals and updated most of the vocals, changing many melodies, lyrics, an even adding backups by Jon and Kent. We’ve also learned two new cover tunes, “Chemicals Between Us” by Bush and “Hysteria” by Muse, and learned an utterly epic new song that’s still in need of a title. We’re looking for shows now and will resume recording very, very soon.

New Show Announced – January 18th at Club Garibaldi

We’ll be playing our first back-to-back show weekend in mid January with this newly booked show. We’ve played with both Ultrea and Red and the Wolf before and think very highly of them both. This should be a great show!

Getting into the Groove

Else is really settling in as a band, and it feels great. It’s not yet even been 9 months since we found our lineup, and we’ve already played 7 great shows plus a few small acoustic sets for friends. We have two more shows on the books (November 7th with Tigernite at the Up and Under and Dec 7th at Club Giribaldi), and are working on setting up 2014 shows.
As far as the music itself goes, we have an hour’s worth of original material and are working on more now. (more…)

A New Look
September 9th, 2013
Over this last weekend we redesigned our logo and website. The new look is sleeker, darker, more modern, and better suits the bands cutting-edge, digital, and heavy sound. This was the first step in our overall rebranding effort which will soon include business cards, a banner, and some better CD prints. We hope to see you at our next show, October 4th in Kenosha (at Finney’s Lounge), so you can see our improved new look!

More Shows!

We’ve had 3 fantastic shows in the last two weeks and have met a ton of great bands and fans. It was a ton of fun finally playing at the legendary Blue Pig on August 10th, I still can’t believe we got to share a show with Encryptor on August 16th, and we had our first Madison show just this last Wednesday the 21st. Highlights of those shows were definitely the bands Encryptor, Ultrea, and Red the Wolf, who we hope to play with again.
So, after 3 shows in the last 2 weeks, we’re slowing down just a bit, but certainly not stopping. (more…)

One Show Down, Many More To Come

We had a great time at Whammy Bar last night and really enjoyed our opening act, Fadeback. It was great to finally play a full set, playing all of our songs, some of them for the first time.
With that show behind us, we now have 3 upcoming shows in July/August. You can always check out calendar for more details, and we hope to see you July 27th in Madison, August 10th at the Blue Pig, and August 16th and the Down and Over.

New Gigs in July and August

Else will be crashing the Whammy Bar on July 11th again to play another short set of originals. We had a great time last time we were there, and really appreciate the expertly run sound.
We’ve also added an August date, playing with Lying Still at the Blue Pig on August 10th.
Both events have been added to our calendar and we’re incredibly excited for both. It feels great to really get some momentum going.
